Stan and I purchased our first wheaten in 1988 and quickly decided one was not enough and brought our second wheaten home in 1989. We were newly married and “the girls” were the center of our life. I was showing Saddlebreds at the time and thought, “How difficult could it be to show a dog?” I quickly realized that my horse did not require a seven-hour haircut to go in the ring!
We finished both of our girls and joined SCWTCGSL and SCWTCA in 1992. It was the best decision we ever made, because we made friends that will be with us for the rest of our lives. What a blessing! Our first litter arrived in 1992 and being a principal of an elementary school provided the best socializing venue for our puppies. (Teachers would send students who were having a good day to my office for their reward of getting to take the puppies outside to potty.)
Upon retirement my goal was to become more involved in SCWTCA and give back to the organization that had been so good to us. I became Corresponding Secretary for two years and President for four years, and once again, making new life-long friends.
We usually only had one litter a year, but have been fortunate to produce twenty-six healthy champions, several group placement winners, two ROM’s and a grand champion. We look forward to new babies in the near future.
I cannot express how humbled I am to be judging our national sweepstakes. I love this breed and I love the friends that have been made over the years because of the exceptional Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
